The very first shot with my new digital still camera. This was three days before shooting. I had already cast most everyone and thought it would be important to get the immediate players and spend the day together. This was the first time the guys had met the girls in person. From left to right; Stephanie Smith, Jacob Attilio, Chris Bresky, and Shelbi Wescott. |
A traveling shot the same day. Okay, I was just having some fun. Shelbi was going through this library a while later. "I loved those sunglasses!" They somehow found their way under a tire of her brother's truck not too long after this shot. She hasn't been the same since. |
Another off the steering wheel. Come on Chris, give me something to work with here. |
On the way up to Bart's Hafeman's recording studio we stopped off at this little sandwich shop. Stephanie and Shelbi were busy ordering while Chris and Jacob clowned around. |
Bart's studio. It was interesting to watch the four actors get to know each other. We didn't go over any script that day. To make the movie believable they all had to get along. It was interesting to sit back and watch them bond. |
Bart, the one man wonder! This guy could play just about anything you put in front of him. He was incredibly humble about it. |
Bart and I had never worked together before professionally. I heard him play in concert at a youth camp my wife and I counseled at a few years earlier. The energy he had then was ever present in our session. |
For some reason this is the gang's favorite shot from that day. I knew at this moment I was going to be okay with the foursome and the relationships they had to play. |
Just like editing the movie, music can sometimes be a long and tedious process. I ducked into the studio to grab a quick shot. The gang looks terribly bored. |
Like I said, multi-talented. Bart adds some background keyboard to "Someday We'll Be You." |
Bart was just as methodical as I was. Don't look now, but I think Jacob's stretching and about to take a nap. |
For those first three songs Bart used a computerized keyboard sequencer. To do the rest of the soundtrack he bought the cream of the crop, ProTools. |
Bart lays down the voice track for the song. The gang moves up front. |
And he delivers. |
Bart pulled the gang into the booth to do some of the backup vocals for the song. They thought it was very cool! |
And ready? Go! |
So then he thought about doing some clapping. His assistant tried to help them get some rhythm going. We never used this. |
Just about there! |
Let's try this again. |
Two days before shooting. An all day rehearsal. Having never done this before I leaned on Rick to help. From left to right; Shelbi, Michael Olson, Jacob, Stan/Audio, and Rick. Michael was pulled in at the last minute. I had cast someone else for Shawn, but he had to back out. Chris and Jacob knew Michael and brought him in. I was a little concerned, but his reading that day set my mind at ease. |
On the couch, Chris (behind Rick), Tony Oliva, Tyson Marty, Stephanie, and sitting down with his back to the camera is Steve Wilent my Co-Writer. |
As far as props go I found most everything, including the motorcycle, which I bought from a friend. We dumped it a couple of times in scenes and put a few dents in the gas tank. I was glad I owned it. The worst feeling in the world is giving something borrowed back to someone in a thrashed condition. My oldest son, Joshua, tries the helmet on for size. |
Hey dad, how do you start this thing?!? |
