Back to Portland Christian for Day 10. The script
originally called for "Phil" and "Nicole" to be sitting under a large oak tree
over-looking a school field or track. This is the closest that I could find in
the location scouting of the campus. Dana whipped out his cool tent thing for
cover. Shelbi and Chris practice lines as we setup the track dolly. |
|
Stan started using his boom pole, but eventually moved
to using a stand to hold it mic. He looks so professional here. |
|
It was a small crew and small set with just Shelbi and
Chis. The two kid around before we start rolling. They had the hardest time
figuring out how to touch each other so their hands wouldn't get tangled
up. |
|
Rick poses for me in passing. It was a long drive
around the school grounds to where we parked. It had just rained so the ground
was still soft. |
|
The crew. The lines were hard for Chris, who had just
gone surfing the day before, so he was a little rusty. The opening shot used
the dolly for an ultra slow move. |
|
Reflectors were the only instruments we used that day
to light the actors. This presented a set of problems of its own since the sun
moves and the light needed to be the same intensity in each shot/take. The only
power we found on that Saturday was a few hundred yards across the field. This
was too long for HMI lights (which would have caused flickering) so we just
used it to power the camera and monitor. |
|
Johnny wrangles cable as Dana runs camera. |
|
"Back to one!" I learned that this was the was the
phrase to use when you wanted everyone back to their starting positions in a
particular shot. |
|
The track dolly gets moved around for the push in on
"Nicole" talking about her father. |
|
I think Dana was trying something here that we never
used. |
|
The book. That day Shelbi brought this book that posed
hypothetical questions. It put you in morally compromising situations and then
gave you multiple choices. It was a lot of laughs and yet provoked some good
discussions. |
|
A tighter shot. |
|
Hmm... what would you do here Chris? |
|
Of course, after a while, it got a little too
distracting. We were there to shoot a scene. |
|
Jacob showed up at the set later on. He is sitting down
next to the camera talking with Chris. It was at this time that the sprinklers
were turned on for us. |
|
The final shot before the two run into the sprinklers.
Even though we shot the scene from beginning to end I only used the first 10
seconds in post as coverage. |
|
A friendly pose. |
|
The reflector is working. |
|
I like this shot. Chris looks cool, calm, and
collective. |
|
With the small crew we all slugged cables from across
the field before shooting the sprinkler sequence. Rick had this thing about
getting water in the connections. I just don't get it. Shelbi shows us she can
carry cables around just like any guy. |
|
The clouds had moved in to give a sort of hazy,
overcast picture. Chris and Shelbi had fun, though I think by the end they were
both freezing. One funny story; I had them kiss a few times in the takes. The
thing was that as they played the water would fill up in her mouth, so when she
kissed him she spit it out. During this scene Rick was over to the left with a
shim, taping out the sprinkler rhythm. |
|
As the water ran down Chris really got Shelbi good.
After this they both came and jumped all over me, getting me soaked. |
